TWO talented sailors have been selected to represent Great Britain at the Youth Sailing World Championship.
Poole Yacht Club star James Foster, 16, is set to race in the Laser Radial class, while Parkstone Sailing Club’s Millie Aldridge, 18, will partner Freya Black in the girls’ 29er fleet.
The youngsters will join a 14-strong British Youth Sailing (BYS) team at the regatta being held in July in Gydnia, Poland.
The sailors gained selection to the team for their performances at the recent RYA Youth National Championship and RS:X European Championship.
Previous participants include Sir Ben Ainslie and 2008 Olympic gold medallist Pippa Wilson.
Aldridge said: “We are very excited to be selected for the Youth World Championship again this summer. We gathered a lot of experience from last year’s Youth Worlds in Texas on what it is like to race in a small fleet of all girls.
“That should ease off the nerves as we aim high to take on a range of conditions and big waves this summer in Gydnia.”
Mark Nicholls, the RYA’s youth racing manager, added: “I’m excited by the attitude of all the selected sailors and look forward to seeing what they can do on the world stage.
“They are all top sailing talents and are looking to grasp this great experience and make the most of it.”
