SCOTT Mitchell will launch his World Trophy bid with today’s last-64 clash against Turkish thrower Umit Uygunsözlü.
Mitchell has never advanced beyond the last eight of the prestigious competition, being staged this year at the Memo Arts Centre in Barry.
Victory for Mitchell over Uygunsözlü would set up a potential second-round meeting tomorrow with three-times world champion Martin Adams.
The tournament’s quarter-finals, last-four matches and final will all be played on a bumper Bank Holiday Monday of action.
Mitchell goes into the competition in fine form, having triumphed at both the Belfry Open and Danish Open last month
