BEN Ainslie goes into races seven and eight of the Finn class today knowing a victory over Danish sensation Jonas Hogh-Christensen will revive his London 2012 gold medal hopes.
Lymington ’s Ainslie, the reigning Olympic Finn champion, is yet to win a race in the regatta, with Hogh-Christensen currently sitting a daunting 10 points in front of the GB legend.
The Finn fleet hits the water at midday today for race seven, followed by race eight at 1.30pm.
Sherborne’s Andrew Simpson and skipper Iain Percy, meanwhile, are sitting pretty at the top of the Star standings as they aim to defend the Olympic gold they won in Beijing four years ago.
The duo are four points clear of nearest rivals Brazil ahead of races seven (12.10pm) and eight (1.50pm) today.
Elsewhere, Bournemouth’s John Pearce and Sway’s Dan McMillan will be in action for Great Britain’s handball team against Argentina today.
Team GB have lost both their opening matches in the Copper Box so far with the action today getting under way at 4.15pm.
In the volleyball competition, Poole’s Dan Hunter and Team GB take on Italy at Earls Court tonight.
Hunter, a former Wessex libero, and the team are yet to win a game so far in the competition, with two victories at least required to have a chance of qualifying for the quarter-finals.
