CHRISTCHURCH Town Council ‘remains hopeful’ that the asset transfers of three leisure sites will be completed by the end of the year.
The town council is currently in the process of taking ownership of Barrack Road Recreation Ground, Two Riversmeet Skate Park and Waterman’s Skate Park.
All three sites are currently owned by BCP Council, but it was decided in March 2023 their assets would be transferred to the town council.
In a report prepared for the full council meeting on September 16, acting town clerk James Atkinson gave an update on the process.
He said: “The relevant documents have now been received by our legal team, and they are currently under review.
“While a few queries have arisen, primarily concerning the financial liabilities associated with shared access, we are optimistic that these issues can be resolved promptly.
“Our legal team is in active discussions to clarify these points and ensure all seven parties are in agreement.
“We remain hopeful that the transfer process will be completed within this year, allowing us to fully integrate these assets into our operations.”
Town councillors have showed a willingness to retain control over some of Christchurch’s spaces and leisure areas.
The take-over of the Barrack Road site in particular was previously described as a ‘pivotal moment for the community’.
