A COACH full of foreign holidaymakers became stuck on a narrow country road.

The vehicle was travelling down Zig Zag Hill in Shaftesbury on Sunday afternoon, September 15, when the rear underside became wedged on the sloped road.

Dorset Traffic Cops had to assist with road recovery while a lorry came and rescued the stranded coach.

A spokesman said: “The group of foreign tourists that were onboard the coach have been taken to Shaftesbury where they are currently sightseeing.”

The road was closed for several hours while the white coach was recovered.

In 2021, motoring experts LeaseCar.uk named Zig Zag Hill as one of the roads around the UK that most “resembles a roller coaster” and described it as “the bendiest one-mile stretch of road in the UK”.

In 2019, sections of Zig Zag Hill were closed for two weeks to allow for upgrades. At the time, the council said the hill needed extensive resurfacing as its tight bends had deteriorated.

A 2006 study by the former Dorset County Council revealed that 54 per cent of the B3081’s surface was of “poor quality”.
