A COUPLE whose goal is to visit every pub in the country went to 20 in Bournemouth and Poole in one day.

Husband and wife team Dale and Holly Harvey took on a “mammoth” 14-hour trek in the rain to tick off a small chunk of a huge list to bring their total to 3,717 pubs across the country.

The Nottingham pair visited the towns last week and went to The Moon in the Square, Brewhouse and Kitchen and The Libertine to name but a few.

“All in all, we had a great day around Bournemouth, despite the weather,” the couple said.

“There is plenty of craft beer and plenty of great cask offerings all over the town, some great rock bars and good variety wherever you look.

“It's also a really friendly town. Looking forward to coming back to do all of the other pubs and bars that we didn't get time to get to.”

They started at The Barking Cat in Ashley Road, Parkstone, which they described as “drinkers’ heaven” thanks to the 12 offerings of cask ales and real ciders.

Next up was The Porterhouse in Poole Road, Westbourne, followed by The Libertine in nearby Alumhurst Road.

They said: “The menu is absolutely brilliant looking and includes things like cod cheek scampi and Devon crab and prawn toast on it.

“Staff are really friendly, there are a couple of ales on and a nice lunchtime vibe.”

After this and some more was The Goat and Tricycle in West Hill Road “where we had hoped to eat having heard good things about the food".

“Sadly they don't do food during the afternoons which shot us in the foot slightly and meant we could only stay for a drink.

“It's a lovely little pub with gorgeous green tiling to the front of one side of the place and a really great beer line up.

“Very friendly service and a lovely way about the pub that has both an olden time and a locals feel to it. Top place. Gutted that we couldn't try the food.”

Eventually, their quest came to an end for the day at Bears Bar and Venue in Holdenhurst Road, a "late night rock style place” open until 4am.

“I love that this end of the town has plenty of rock bars that stay open so late,” the couple added.

They confirmed they will be back at a later date to tick off more pubs in the conurbation.
