TWO ex-RAF pilots turned carers are set for take-off in Bournemouth as they launch a new franchise in the care industry.

Tim Corry and Alex Duncan, together with their recruitment manager Nicola Godwin and partner John Askew, will launch Guardian Angel Carers Bournemouth this month.

Guardian Angel Carers Bournemouth will offer a range of services from a 'little extra help' about the house to full-time live-in care.

Tim and Alex's other franchises – launched in 2021 and 2023 – transformed homecare services in Farnham, Guildford and Godalming.

They used a combination of 'meticulous recruitment of the very best people, a progressive approach to technology, and authentic leadership'.

Now, they want to bring the same formula to Bournemouth and the surrounding areas.

Tim said: "We could see that the zero-hours contract model of employment that is so prevalent in the care sector is undermining the whole system.

“That leads to care companies employing people ‘just-in-time’ for when new clients come to them.

"At Guardian Angel Carers we think it’s vital that we have a great relationship with all of our carers, and they in turn build relationships with the client and their family. That only comes from mutual trust and sustainable working practices.

“One of our missions is to put an end to people describing themselves as ‘just a carer’. To us, carers are nothing short of life-savers. And as a career it’s one of the most rewarding things anyone can do.”

Bournemouth is the fourteenth franchise awarded by Guardian Angel Carers, which was established in 2012 by ex Olympic sailor, Christina Handasyde Dick.

While the brand and many core administrative functions are managed and provided by the franchise owner, Christina has always ensured that franchise operators have sufficient autonomy to adapt their businesses to the local area.

Speaking on building a reputation in the BCP area, Tim said: "Care is no different to any other local business – plumber, builder, architect.

"If people in the community know you, you have to do a good job. So we don’t do any national marketing – only local magazines and events.

"We don’t do anything that isn’t organised by and part of the local community.”
