A FORMER lottery winner has put his money to good use by creating a charity event in memory of his friend.

Ben Cull was diagnosed at 17 with Ewings Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer in his right knee.

After extensive chemotherapy, a full knee replacement, and being told he was cancer-free, Ben passed away after it was revealed that a checkup showed the cancer had returned, spread to his lungs, and caused his condition to be terminal.

He died in September 2023.

Jamie Kay became lucky in 2016 after winning £1m on a scratch card.

As well as setting up his own business, Jamie has also created a charity fun day in honour of Ben.

On his relationship with Ben, Jamie said: “Ben was a very good footballer, but when his condition got worse, he moved onto golf and was a member at this golf club.

I spent many times on the golf course with him and whilst he was still around, we spoke about getting a charity golf day organized for this year for the Teenage Cancer Trust then he unfortunately passed last September.

“I thought I may as well just try and crack on and carry on finishing what he wanted to do.

“So now we've got a charity golf event at Remedy Oak Golf Club next month, well over 100 people are expected to attend.”

Speaking on the event, Jamie added: “We've ended up hiring the full golf course out.

“We've got a full breakfast, golf, dinner, a presentation, prizes, raffles, and silent auctions.

“Without anyone signing up, then none of that would be happening.

“In the first 48 hours of planning this event, I’d already had over 80 people contacting me saying they want to get involved, it’s been great to have so much support.

“We are hoping to continue Bens' charity-raising commitments in years to come.”

A GoFundMe was also set up by Ben’s girlfriend Daisy, who hoped to help Ben achieve his bucket list dreams which surpassed over £25,000 in donations.

The event will be held at Remedy Oak Golf Club on September 17.
