NOW in its 15th year, the White Christmas Dip is set to make a splash once again in 2023. 

Hundreds of people will be taking the plunge on Christmas Day.

Here's everything you need to know about the popular event. 

What is the White Christmas Dip?

The White Christmas dip is a festive event for all ages to take part in. 

Created in 2008 by John White and Tommy Baker, participants will brave the cold and take a quick dip near Boscombe Pier.

When will the event take place? 

The dip takes place at 10.30am on December 25 but you will need to sign in between 9.45am and 10am which still offers plenty of time for a festive roast dinner after.

Where is it held?

Participants meet at Boscombe Pier. 

How much does it cost and where will the money go?

Participants will pay £7.50 which will serve as a donation to the Macmillan Hospital in Christchurch. 

The Macmillan Unit at Christchurch Hospital is a specialist palliative care unit and hospice for patients in southeast Dorset and south west Hampshire.

More than £300,000 has been raised for the hospital which has changed the lives of cancer sufferers.

What is the dress code?

To keep the event as festive as possible, the dress code is anything fancy dress. 

In recent years, Santa and elf costumes have been a fan favourite, but remember to wrap up warm after!

Why was the event created? 

The White Christmas Dip began with just six members in 2008, John White, who had been living with cancer, had been visiting some of his family when they decided to go for a Christmas dip.

John, alongside their son, also named John White and nephews Tommy Baker, Harry Baker, Berni Mendieta and Joe Hardwick dipped into the ocean in fancy dress. 

What do I need to do before the big day? 

Swimmers sign a disclaimer indicating that they can swim well enough to feel comfortable joining everyone in the sea for a quick dip.
