NORMAN & BARBARA ADAMS

Norman & Barbara Adams Mr & Mrs Norman Adams will celebrate their 90th birthdays in a joint celebration in Upland, California with a special party hosted by their daughter Barbara and her husband Alvan Shane. Norman was born in Leeds, England and grew up in nearby Castleford. He joined the RAF in 1941 and participated in the D-Day landings, during which he was torpedoed and had to tread water in the dark for three hours before being rescued and hospitalised. Norman stayed in uniform until the end of the war before becoming a teacher and eventually Assistant Head at a primary school in Bournemouth until August 1966 before emigrating to America. He soon changed careers and climbed the ranks to executive level at May Department Stores. He retired in 1979. Barbara was born in Lytham-St Anne’s, near Blackpool. She was about to enter college when she met Norman in the ballroom of Blackpool tower in 1941. They wed on July 5th 1943. The couple had a daughter, also called Barbara who gave birth to their first grandson Ian in 1970. Ian sadly died of kidney disease at just 18 years old. Their second grandson, Matthew was born in 1992 and is currently in college. Norman & Barbara celebrated 60 years of marriage in 2003 at the Marsham Court Hotel in Bournemouth. They have lived quietly in Upland since 1999, are in good health and would love to hear from friends with whom they have lost touch. Anyone wishing to do so may call their daughter Barbara at 011 1 (909) 946-5104..
