CINEWORLD has spoken about the future of its Poole site after it was announced the Weymouth branch would be closing.
The Weymouth branch of the cinema chain will shut its doors for good on December 30, 2024.
After being contacted by the Daily Echo about the future of the Poole branch, a spokesperson for Cineworld said: “While decisions about further closures ultimately rest with our landlords, we remain hopeful that they will keep as many of our locations open as possible to serve communities across our estate.”
The company said the Weymouth closure came after discussions with the landlord of the site which it said had "rejected our proposals".
The business, which is part of the world’s second-largest cinema chain, has struggled since the Covid pandemic as audiences have failed to return to previous levels.
In the summer, Cineworld announced plans to shut a number of sites across the UK as part of major restructuring plans although Weymouth was not on the list.
However the cinema chain said alongside the closure of six branches, it would also seek to negotiate rent reductions for other branches.
In a statement issued on November 26, the company said it hoped to see its Weymouth customers again soon at its nearest Cineworld in Poole.
